The consulting firm overseeing the Katende Hydropower Plant in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has announced that the project’s first phase will generate 32 megawatts of electricity within 24 months.
Located in Kasai Central province, the project is part of the national strategy to expand electricity access in central DRC.
The initial phase includes the installation of two 16 MW turbines and the construction of a transmission line to the city of Kananga.
The DRC government has secured financing for the project and established oversight structures, including an engineering office and technical committees, to ensure effective implementation.
